Prepare for Hurricane Florence!

With Hurricane Florence bearing down on us, take steps now to make sure that you and your family are safe. You can find more information here:

Also, here is a great website for kids about preparing for disasters.  Be sure to get them involved - they might even have fun with it!

Tips for getting started:
Basic Disaster Supplies Kit
To assemble your kit, store items in airtight plastic bags and put your entire disaster supplies kit in one or two easy-to-carry containers such as plastic bins or a duffel bag.

A basic emergency supply kit could include the following recommended items:

Water - one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation
Food - at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food
Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert
First aid kit
Extra batteries
Whistle to signal for help
Dust mask to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
Manual can opener for food
Local maps
Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery
Develop and document plans for your specific risks:

Protect yourself and family with a Family Emergency Plan
Be sure to plan for locations away from home
Pet owners should have plans to care for their animals. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention offer information on animal health impacts in evacuation shelters.
Prepare your boat and be aware of marine safety if you are on or near the water.

Many of you are already registered with our patient portal, which is designed to give you more access to your child’s doctor and medical information.  The portal is as easy to navigate as other websites, but there are a few pointers we’d like to show you after our recent upgrade to Version 4 so you can get the most out of our state of the art Electronic Medical Record.

When you register for the portal, we will give you a unique user name and password for each child.  These are both case-sensitive.  Before you do anything on the portal, please change your password by clicking on “Reset Password” on the left.  Your child’s medical information deserves the highest level of security, so please use a password that is at least 8 digits and includes a combination of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, and special characters.

If you have a new address, phone number, email address, or emergency contact, you can request that we make those changes in your record by clicking on “Personal Information”.  Your pharmacy can be updated by using the “Additional Information” tab.  Make sure to click ‘update’ at the bottom when you’re finished.

The most commonly requested information – immunization history, current medications, vitals, and lab results – is all listed under the “PHR-View” tab.  For optimum viewing of lab results, however, we recommend using the “Lab / Diagnostic Reports” tab.

By signing up for the portal, you will also receive emailed appointment reminders the day you schedule an appointment, three days before the appointment, and one day before the appointment.  If you find that you are not receiving our emails, please check your spam filter and add to your safe senders' list.  If that doesn’t work, verify that we have the correct email address under ”Personal Information”.

Some other useful features of the portal include the ability to email your doctor, view current statements and appointments, and request refills, referrals, and appointments.  All of these features have their own tab on the left.

If you would like to sign up for portal access, please call us at 919-969-9611.  All we need is your email address!
